All That Glitters BBC2 Search for Britain's Next Top Jeweller

Have you been watching the BBC's newest TV Talent Show "All That Glitters" hosted by the stunning (if sometimes potty mouthed) Katherine Ryan.

Move over Holby City, Tuesday night's at 8pm have been a revelation as I turned over to BBC2 to watch this new talent show. In honesty, I'm not the biggest fan of the talent show format, I mean we've had Great British Bake Off, Sewing Bee, Pottery Throw Down, I suppose Jewellery was inevitable.

Firstly, let me say it is an interesting and riveting show to watch, and the good news is, All That Glitters TV has been casting for Season 2 so watch this space ( Apply Here you Brave Souls ).

I've loved watching the jewellers creating their beautiful pieces, each week they are tasked with making a "Bestseller" piece and a "Bespoke" piece to a client brief.

What I love about the show, is that it features a range of jewellers, each with different professional backgrounds and each with their own style.

From Hugo with his classical Goldsmiths training to self-taught Sonny Bailey who forges metal like a pro. The cast are fantastic, I've loved watching their styles come through in their work and how they all approach the tasks differently.

As a self taught jeweller myself it has given me more confidence to see these different approaches and to know that there is no one method that is better or worse. And it's good to see that I'm not the only one going through multiple saw blades and turning the air blue !

I've enjoyed watching them make to a client brief and I've even contacted one of the contestants to make a bespoke piece for my personal collection after having seen their work on the show ( high praise indeed as I'm not known to wear other jewellers work these days).

I think it shows how much love and attention is poured into a piece however due to the time constraints I find it a shame that the contestants aren't able to always finish the pieces to the extent that they usually would.

I can't wait to Tune in on Tuesday for the final, after which I'll do a run down of my favourite pieces from each jeweller in Season One.

If you've missed the show you can catch up here on BBC iPlayer

Oh .. and the answer to the question that you're all burning to ask - No, I won't be auditioning this year. Although I wouldn't completely rule it out in the future...
