Celebrating Six Years of Impressums Jewellery

This month I’m celebrating six years of Impressums Jewellery.

I’m not quite sure when that happened.

In 2020, I started making jewellery from home as a creative escape. I had no idea that the little hobby I had started would become a business that I’d still be running six years later.

And if I’m honest, I certainly didn’t have a six-year plan.

I just started making things.

From a hobby to Impressums Jewellery

When I first began, I was making fine silver pendants and charms, including personalised fingerprint and handprint jewellery as a hobby.

It was very different from what I make today.

The name Impressums actually came from those early fingerprint pieces, where I was creating an impression in silver. I liked the name, and somehow it stuck.

As my skills developed, so did my jewellery. I started experimenting with textures, shapes and traditional silversmithing techniques, gradually moving towards the geometric designs, organic textures, sea glass and coastal inspiration that feel much more like me today.

I’m still learning and experimenting, and I think that’s one of the things I love most about making jewellery. There is always something new to try.

Six years of learning as I go

I came into this business as a self-taught silversmith, without any experience of running a business. I can confidently say the last six years have been a steep learning curve. I underestimated just how much time and energy goes into running a business alongside doing the part I love most: making silver jewellery.

Alongside the learning have come some incredible opportunities. I’ve exhibited at Art in the Park in Leamington Spa, been featured in Professional Jeweller, worked with independent stockists and been selected for Small Business Saturday’s Small Biz 100.

I’ve also built my own workshop, which still feels slightly surreal.

And along the way, more than 8,000 customers across Etsy, my website and stockists have chosen to buy something I’ve made.

That is something I never take for granted.

The part I’m most proud of

What I’m most proud of is that Impressums has stayed true to what I wanted it to be.

It’s still just me making the jewellery. Everything is handmade in my Warwickshire workshop. I still use traditional silversmithing techniques and recycled sterling silver. I still get excited when a new design works, and I still spend far too long making sure something is just right before I sell it.

There’s no big team behind the scenes. When you buy from Impressums, you’re buying something made by a real person who cares about what they’re making.

That personal side of the business has always mattered to me, and I never want to lose sight of it.

I’m also proud that I’ve been able to grow, adapt and try new things along the way. The addition of enamel jewellery this year is a good example of that. I’m not afraid to take Impressums in a new direction when something excites me.
