Fine Silver Jewellery FAQ's
The handmade fine silver jewellery pieces are all made in my Warwickshire studio by my own fair hands from recycled silver in the form of "Precious Metal Clay" or PMC Silver.
The precious metal clay consists of tiny particles of fine silver combined with a binder, when fired ( at nearly 900oC) the binder burns away leaving a pure fine solid silver piece.
What is Fine Silver?
Fine, 99 Pure Silver 99.9% silver, with the balance being trace amounts of impurities. My pieces could be hallmarked as 999 Fine Silver at the Assay Office, however due to the pieces being under the weight for statutory hallmarking, I choose not to have the items hallmarked.
Is Fine Silver strong?
Fine Silver is typically softer than 925 Sterling Silver, as it does not have any added elements to stabilise and harden the metal. As such, you should treat Fine Silver Jewellery with special care to avoid scratching.
Does Fine Silver Tarnish?
If looked after properly, Fine Silver hardly tarnishes at all. Sterling silver for example tarnishes quicker as it has a higher percentage of impurity (copper).
How do I look after my fine silver Jewellery?
As with all jewellery, you should avoid exposure to strong chemicals and prolonged water exposure. As such, we suggest you remove your jewellery before bathing, swimming or applying any lotions or potions.
If your jewellery needs cleaning, you can clean with a small amount of dish soap and a soft toothbrush or a silver polishing cloth.
